Ways to use thrifted baskets in the home

There is nothing like a good old-fashioned basket to come to the rescue when the “things” feel in disarray! I constantly thrift baskets to have on hand because I find they are always happy to support me when it gets down to organization hour. Such an inexpensive way to contain all the items that are needed within our home, as well as an added pretty home decor touch!

I wanted to compile a blog post of some thrifted baskets around my home that I have out on the daily in hopes of inspiring you. These get moved throughout the year supporting whatever season of life “things” are out and about and needed within reach.

There is so much beauty in the mundane. I’m always in awe of how I feel after folding a fresh load of laundry from a beautiful basket or putting everyday items back into a basket after tidying up. These “things” could be placed back into a plastic bin or a container of some sort (which is totally fine, I have plenty of those too living in drawers and cabinets) but nothing beats a wicker and woven basket that has been well-loved and beautiful.

Starting in the drop zone area of my home are two lovely baskets waiting to greet you. I have them sitting on my hall tree on the bench. My toddler’s shoes and all the necessities that venture with us on outings get placed here. Along with any returns or items that need to go back to their respective home go in the smaller one.

In the kitchen, I use a thrifted basket to hold all of my cutting boards. I found that I grabbed these every day and needed them more in an easy-to-reach spot which eliminates the extra step of opening a drawer.  I placed a kitchen towel in the basket to give it a cute look as well as keeping it clean within the basket. Also in the kitchen, I have a large basket at the bottom of the island that holds water bottles. This helps us grab and go throughout the day.

There are a few baskets that live on some end tables and surfaces within my home. I have a basket that lives on the end table in the living room, this helps us keep the remotes up and out of reach with our toddler. Along my end table on the side of the bed, this basket holds some lotion and a book that keeps it out in the open for me.. again skipping the opening a draw step. In my office, I have one that holds books, a planner, and any paperwork that needs to be filled or filed.

I use two in the shed that hold some gardening supplies and feed for the birds and squirrels. This helps keep what I need within reach and also adds such a homey touch for only a few dollars.

I hope this gave you the inspiration you were looking for organizing and bringing a thrifted item into your home that fills your need for it.
